The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education, has released The Condition of Education 2010. The report presents 49 indicators on the status of education in the US (supplemented by online resources). This year it includes a special section on high-poverty schools. A few weeks ago, the Commission on the Future of Graduate Education in the US released the report The Path Forward: The Future of Graduate Education in the United States. The report notes, “Much of the policy on enhancing innovation and competitiveness has focused on STEM [science, technology, engineering, and mathematics] fields, but awareness of the role of the humanities in our national culture is increasing, including its impact on ethics and values, vitality, and competitiveness…”
