The Committee on the Future of Print and Electronic Publishing has developed an online survey that went live to members on April 18. The survey announcement, which was sent by the AAA’s Richard Thomas, has the email subject line “Invitation to Participate in Survey.”
The survey, for which we are seeking the broadest possible member response, will help CFPEP develop recommendations for the Executive Board in response to member opinions voiced during the review of the Wiley-Blackwell contract (prior to its renewal in 2011). That feedback specifically encouraged the association to explore more options for the AAA’s large and complex publishing operation. In addition to this survey, this committee invited a conversation at the 2011 Annual Meeting, which can be viewed on Vimeo. I posted an earlier blog on some of the complexities facing the program.
Like many email messages today, the survey invitation has in some cases been picked off by institutional spam filters as well as the filters on individual computers’ email clients. If you are a paid-up member and didn’t receive the message, be sure to check your spam folder to see if it landed there. If you still can’t find it, feel free to contact Oona Schmid (firstname.lastname@example.org), who will send you the appropriate link.
Again, I can’t stress too much how important the results of this survey will be for CFPEP’s deliberations and fact-finding efforts.
As they say on late-night TV: But wait, there’s more! You will be eligible to win a $50 gift certificate if you complete the survey.
In short, this is your chance to register your feelings about the present and future direction of AAA publishing. Don’t miss the opportunity.
